ANZAC Day 2012
The 25th of April is a special day for all New Zealanders and Australians. It is the day we set aside for the remembrance of all of those men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our freedom in WWI, WW2 and conflicts since. ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corps) services are held throughout both countries on that day the main ones being held at dawn and then civic services held later on. Surviving veterans march alongside current servicemen and women as well as members of other service groups such as police and cadet corps. Fitzroy School held our school service on Tuesday 24th (school was closed on the 25th) led by Mr. Mansfield. The children are all very interested in what happened at places like Gallipoli and were very respectful during the service, a fact that we as a school, are very proud of.

Kiwi Swim Safe
For Swimming we have been doing the Kiwi swim safe programme. Today Mrs Elliott came to school to show us a few things including how to survive in the water. One of the activities was to put a life-jacket on in the water without touching the bottom of the pool. Some of us found it difficult while others found it easy. With the life-jackets on we had to huddle up and form a circle and see how long we could float for and we also had to join up in a line and kick and float to the end of the pool. We all enjoyed it even though the water was cold.

Snake Trouble
Once upon a time there was a snake whose name was Slippery. One day, while slithering through the jungle, Slippery saw another snake which looked just like him. After a short time staring at each other, Slippery decided he didn't like the other snake at all. "Too much like me, there's only room for one of me!" thought Slippery.
The two snakes came together and started to hiss at each other. The other snake didn't really like Slippery either "Too slippery!" thought the other snake. Suddenly both snakes stood up on their tails (for they were cobra snakes) and lunged at each other - the fighting began.
As the battle wore on the snakes started to whack each other with their tails. They hissed and they bit and they wriggled and they slithered, right into the night! The next day, totally exhausted, the snakes finally stopped fighting. No-one was a winner.
"You wait until I get my breath back!" warned Slippery.
"No YOU wait until I get the feeling back in my tail, then you'll be in big trouble!" hissed the other snake.
Suddenly there was a rustling in the bushes and a HUMUNGOUS python materialized. "Did someone say big trouble?" boomed the python, "because that's who I am - I'm the biggest trouble you woosies are ever going too meet!"
The two cobras didn't feel so brave any more and both slithered away as fast as their slippery bodies could carry them! Monty Python laughed and laughed.
