"Secret Spaces" A Photographic Exhibition by James Hall

James is 10 years old. He has an "eye". He was asked to take the class digital camera and take images from around the school, but to make them a bit of a challenge so that his classmates could try and guess where they were taken. I briefly taught James the rule of 3rds and how to compose an image and sent him on his way. The following photos are untouched and uncropped, they are just as James took them. I think they are stunning, so much in fact that these images are presently being exhibited in the school entrance in all their glory. If you are passing, pop in and take a look!

Nice work James..

New Plymouth Brass Band Shows Its Class

Today, Friday 18th June, the award winning New Plymouth Brass Band gave Fitzroy School a taste of their talent. During their half hour concert (all the band members gave up their lunch hour)they played a variety of tunes from 'God Defend New Zealand' to 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and 'The Flintstones'. I really enjoyed the short concert because it was so different to what I normally listen to. If I was in the band I think I would like to be the drummer. I thought he was really good - he was in the New Plymouth Boy's High brass band as well.
The band played one encore and received a huge round of applause from the whole school. Thanks New Plymouth Brass band for coming to Fitzroy School.

Irish International Rugby Players Visit Fitzroy School

On Friday 11th June 2010 we had a visit from 5 players from the Ireland International Rugby Team. The players were welcomed in the hall with a traditional welcome action song, followed by the singing of our National Anthem and Ireland's Call. The players were gracious in there interactions with the children and joined in with the singing. They answered numerous questions before heading outside for a bit of a run around with the oval ball and the students. We were privileged to have them visit our school and the students definitely found the experience rewarding.

Blob Chase

Blob Chase is the story of two Blobs who meet each other. One gets annoyed and leaves, the other one chases him. They go through a maze of doors and conveyor belts until they meet in a final showdown. Only one survives.
Blob Chase was a great success although it took a long time to produce, I hope you enjoy it and please leave a comment so I can improve my movies.

Fantastic Fishing..

It was a beautiful day when Dave, Dad and I went for a fish. When we got out to the mark which was 73 meters deep, Dave and I had a bet whoever got the biggest snapper won $2.
We were waiting and waiting and waiting with our big baits on the sea bed. We ended up catching lots and lots of little snapper but then the big ones came. I brought up a 6 pounder from 73 meters, she was a beauty. Dad was excited, it was a mission and a half getting it up to the boat. When we got it up, we straight away put it in my hands and took a picture then put it in the chili bin.
Ten minutes later I saw Dave struggling with something... It turned out he was reeling in an 8 pounder! I was so annoyed, I had to owe him $2.
After that we went home and and filleted them, Mum cooked a nice fish pie for tea and I said to Dad "Thanks for taking me fishing!"

NewsMaker

Hi Kids, Mums & Dads,

Another of our new programs that we will be having a play with this year is Eyepower Games's "Newsmaker". This software uses a simple, but really nifty "write, read, publish" format that allows you to create productions in the News Programme genre. However we won't be restricted to making news programmes, we can experiment with it and hopefully you guys will have heaps of ideas on how we can use it just like you have with MARVIN.
If you want to download a free 30 day trial of this program to play with at home then go to: http://www.aboutnewsmaker.com/

To make this program work though, you will need a digital camera that streams images like a webcam, or digital video camera that can be connected to your computer via USB, and a microphone. Maybe Dad will let you use his laptop with the built-in cam & mic?

Anyway keep coming back here to check out our latest productions and have fun at home making movies with your family.

Mr. P.

We have been experimenting with the "I Can Animate" program, So I made an advert about a guy called Gus who operates a tow truck. This is my first attempt and my next one will be better hopefully. I'm going to try and make a Jurassic Park movie with music and model dinosaurs. I reckon I might call it 65,000BC. In the meantime enjoy "GUS". Oh, and don't forget to leave a comment.

Reading with the Juniors

Today some of us went over to the junior block to do some reading with the youngest members of our Fitzroy family, the new entrants in Mrs. Weston's class.

"It was fun reading to the little kids. Joe was a bit shy though and didn't talk much, but he really liked the shark and dinosaur books." - J.V.

"It was fun but Bailey got distracted a bit. She really liked The Naughty SpellDragon though." - J.C.

" I enjoyed reading to him, but it was hard to hold his attention." - N.W.
